Sundays, 6pm in Brisbane
Developing a meditation practice is so much easier with the support of a group. Every Sunday evening from 6pm – 8pm, join us as we explore the liberating insights and practices taught by the Buddha. Each week we host experienced contemporary meditation teachers, who give talks on various aspects of the practice.
We sit together at Haiku Arts and Yoga Studio which is located just under the ‘Wrapture’ restaurant on Russell St, a few doors down from West End post office. Head down the concrete ramp and open the sliding door.
Often when we come to practise meditation we find ourselves overwhelmed by the river of stories that flows through our minds. This is the realm of narrative, the virtual world within which we live most of the time. In the Buddha’s language, this is the world of the sixth sense, that of mind (mano). Our basic task is to keep our awareness in the physical world, the world of the five senses of seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting and touching. We practise intimacy, where we stay with the touch of sense object on its corresponding sensitivity – the touch of sights on eye sensitivity, the touch of sounds on ear sensitivity, and so on. Finally, we approach the sixth sensitivity, that of mind, by learning to stay with the touch of thought, feeling and perception. We learn to stay with touch rather than story; even the touch of story itself.
Dear Heart Insight Friends,
You are invited to Heart Insight’s next AGM at 5.15pm on Sunday 27 January at Haiku.
Come and share your thoughts about what you’d like to see happen with Heart Insight in the year to come – teaching series? Day long retreats? Community potlucks?
Your voice is important to help create the kind of community that is truly enriching for all!
In addition after nearly ten years of helping organise HI, I’ll be retiring from my roles early next year.
There are several little jobs that need to be done:
– Treasurer, i.e. collecting money each week and paying the Haiku rent (monthly) and transferring the school donations to the BDA.
– Key holder, opening and closing each week.
The best way to tackle this is to reactivate HI’s management group so the workload is shared. Perhaps a roster can be set up on Google Docs.
We are very grateful to have the following experienced meditation teachers offering regular dharma talks at Heart Insight.
